Author Melissa Milgrom will discuss her book ”Still Life: Adventures in Taxidermy” on Tuesday, Aug. 17., at the East Brunswick Public Library.

According to the library: ”You will discover how this misunderstood art form- once the sublime preoccupation of kings for their cabinets of curiousities- has evolved at places like the American Museum of Natural History whose peerless dioramas, made by daring taxidermists-explorers, are nature’s time capsules.

Milgrom spent seven years shadowing a local family of taxidermists from Milltown, Smithsonian taxidermist Ken Walker who recreates extinct creatures, and English sculptor Emily Mayer who preserve animals for Damien Hirst. Come and experience the beauty in the uncanny.”

The event begins at 7 p.m.
