According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, which has 5 seasons compared to our American 4 seasons, summer has already begun. During this season it is advisable to ingest more raw food. Raw food is especially beneficial for your heart, small intestine and cleansing your blood.
Although most Americans have been overworking their liver and pancreas since they were children ingesting diets loaded with orange/apple juice, bananas, breakfast cereal and other sugar loaded products summer is the best time to use fruit as it was meant to be used.
Fruit can be described as a fleshy organ that surrounds either a single seed or numerous seeds.
Grains, beans and nuts are simply dry fruit while sweet sugary fruits are better known as fleshy fruits.
When fleshy fruits are eaten raw they have a cooling effect on your body and can reduce your internal temperature. Thus making fruit a great choice for snacking during the hotter months of summer. Try and choose local fruit and limit the tropical varieties.
We are having a raw foods cooking class tomorrow night at HLW where I will be speaking more on the concept of raw foods and its benefits with our HLW counselor and guest chef Saleem Arshed.
