New Law Means Change in How Your tax Bill Looks
EAST BRUNSWICK – Taxpayers may notice something new on their tax bill this month. Thanks to a new law enacted on March 21 by Gov. Chris Christie, there will now be a dedicated line item on property tax bills that shows the minimum amount of funding going toward municipal and joint free public libraries. In the past this number has been included in the municipal tax levy and tax rate, but now those numbers will be separated and you will get a better idea of where your hard earned dollars are going. The law simply provides a dedicated line item for municipal libraries on the property tax bill, creating a new level of transparency. The change does not result in an increase in taxes or change existing financial, operational, personnel or other relationships between a municipality and the library. For more information on the change visit http://www.ebpl.org or call 732-390-6767.

Free Fishing Days This Weekend: The NJDEP Division of Fish and Wildlife is reminding the public that this Saturday and Sunday, June 11 and 12, are the state’s annual Free Fishing Days. On these days anyone may fish the Garden State’s public waters without a license or trout stamp.Free Fishing Days provide an excellent opportunity to introduce a friend or family member to the joys of fishing. Nonresidents have the opportunity to give the state’s great fishing a try, and for someone who hasn’t fished in a while it’s a chance to get reacquainted with a great activity. Current anglers who may want to try a new location can take advantage of the new ”Great Fishing Close to Home” brochures. Information on waters and the fish they hold make exploring waters nearby but never fished easy and fun. More information on Free Fishing Days can be found at http://www.njfishandwildlife.com/ffd.htm on the division’s website; the new ”Great Fishing” brochures are also on the site at http://www.njfishandwildlife.com/fishingbrochures.htm. Anglers are reminded that while the license requirement is waived this weekend, all other regulations, including size and daily catch limits, remain in effect. Anglers should also note that any smallmouth or largemouth bass caught during this time must be released. Freshwater fishing in New Jersey has never been better, with more kinds of fish and more places for people to catch them than ever before. So don’t miss this great opportunity to get outdoors this weekend and ”get hooked” on a great sport!
