Free Fishing Days This Weekend: The NJDEP Division of Fish and Wildlife is reminding the public that this Saturday and Sunday, June 11 and 12, are the state’s annual Free Fishing Days. On these days anyone may fish the Garden State’s public waters without a license or trout stamp.Free Fishing Days provide an excellent opportunity to introduce a friend or family member to the joys of fishing. Nonresidents have the opportunity to give the state’s great fishing a try, and for someone who hasn’t fished in a while it’s a chance to get reacquainted with a great activity. Current anglers who may want to try a new location can take advantage of the new ”Great Fishing Close to Home” brochures. Information on waters and the fish they hold make exploring waters nearby but never fished easy and fun. More information on Free Fishing Days can be found at http://www.njfishandwildlife.com/ffd.htm on the division’s website; the new ”Great Fishing” brochures are also on the site at http://www.njfishandwildlife.com/fishingbrochures.htm. Anglers are reminded that while the license requirement is waived this weekend, all other regulations, including size and daily catch limits, remain in effect. Anglers should also note that any smallmouth or largemouth bass caught during this time must be released. Freshwater fishing in New Jersey has never been better, with more kinds of fish and more places for people to catch them than ever before. So don’t miss this great opportunity to get outdoors this weekend and ”get hooked” on a great sport!
